My teaching philosophy towards my future students will be the same as what it has been for my own children. I will try to treat each child as an individual because I know that they will each have their own individual needs. Being a future special education teacher means that this will be truer than ever. Special education, from what I hear, is a very stressful position. It is a job that requires a whole lot of patience and knowledge. I have coached little league baseball for 10 plus years and I have been told on numerous occasions that I will make a fine teacher because I am so patient with the boys. I hope this is true.
Special education teachers need to develop individualized education plans (IEP's) for each of our students. This alone will draw us into a personal relationship with each of our students. When we know that certain children have a bad home life, it is hard for us to not care for their wellbeing. A lot of the children with disabilities come from bad situations at home and by treating them the way they deserve to be treated can only help boost their morale if only for a little while. The bottom line is, each one of these children should be treated as our own because I as a parent would love to see my children's teachers do the same.
